“I’m a believer.”
Our guide, Brian, said this calmly and softly. No elaboration or major pronouncement, just a simple statement of fact that would be the foundation of his time with us.
It all started at 4:30 am when Brian appeared, as if by magic, just outside our motel room. His “chariot”, a decade old truck that could tell tall tails of adventure, was as important as Brian the Guide. Our remote destination required an off road vehicle and a driver knowledgeable of the area. So here we stood in the cold crisp night air with stars so close you felt catching handfuls was entirely possible. The moment begged to be savored, but we were chasing sunrise.
After the requisite introductions and civilities, we were on our way. Several minutes later, in the midst of his conversational details about our day, Brian made the concise yet significant statement, “I’m a believer.” The statement seemed to be a proclamation of something so integral to Brian's being that it had to be said. He didn’t want to convert us or start a dialogue about beliefs; he simply wanted us to know the most vital thing there was to know about him—his belief that EVERYTHING we were about to see and photograph was created by a Creator, not the result of some arbitrary happenstance or random geological progression, but of a Creator who loves to take our breath away at the majesty of His masterpieces.
On that beautiful April morning we learned so much from this captivating gentleman and hope to convey more of his story in future posts, but for now, we too are at “the beginning” of our journey with those of you who take the time to read our stories and view our images—and it’s important to lay the foundation for what is most vital to us about ourselves, the stories we tell and the images we create. Simply put, we, too, are believers. And, like our guide Brian, it is our sincerest desire that with each story, each image, each inspiration you will “take a good look at God’s wonders” because they will simply “take your breath away.” (Psalm 66:5 MSG)
Let the Journey begin!
